BACKGROUND

Statement By Poseidon, Webmaster of Take Our World Back

Since April 2007 there have been at least three instances where Jim Kerr, Webmaster of PlanetQuo.com, has been on friendly terms with someone, and has then turned against them to the extent of publishing a voluminous barrage of disinformation: Crimes of Zion (Jamie Linton), Whippette (Suzette) and myself. And he has attacked apossumprincess (Nina). In all four cases he has published pages of personal abuse and insults on his website, such as charges of being a "Zionist shill" or a "lying, deceiving slag", and has launched attacks at the Wake Up From Your Slumber forum (WUFYS).

Kerr's grudges are a very long story. From about December 2006 to March 2007, he (posting as PlanetQuo) got into an argument with an Australian named Brendon O'Connell who was posting as DonnieDarko on the NOLAJBS forum. O'Connell later changed his handle to QuoVadius and QuoVadis. In early 2007, Kerr was on friendly terms with Jamie Linton who posted as Infensus Mentis at NOLAJBS before using the handle Crimes of Zion at WUFYS.

Round about March this year, Daryl Bradford Smith - characteristically for him - first promoted the NOLAJBS forum, and then declared it to be "Zionist-controlled". Kerr wrote an expose, and Smith and Hufschmid's French Connection site linked to Kerr's page. But, about 2/3 of the way down Kerr's expose, he includes personal information about Jo Molero who ran the NOLAJBS forum - such as his personal address or how to find it. After a while TFC removed the link from their front page, but they still linked to it from another page. Kerr didn't like that, and he found out that Nina had been frequently talking to Daryl Smith.

Kerr began promoting the bizarre theory that Nina was a "Zionist agent", possibly even an entire ADL team, who was or were Smith's "handler", and who had ordered Smith to remove the link to protect "Zionist shills" who administrated the NOLAJBS forum. In fact, Nina knew Joe Molero who ran the NOLAJBS forum, which was why she asked Daryl to get the link removed from the TFC front page to reduce exposure of his personal information.

Consistency isn't Kerr's forte; he tries to have his cake and eat it. If Smith says someone is a shill, then Kerr will seize on that and cite Smith's pronouncement as 'evidence' for that person being a shill. At the same time, if Kerr thinks that his professing to believe that Smith is a "lying shill" whom he intends to destroy can win him some new online friends and associates who happen to be anti-Smith, he'll adopt that position. Or if he thinks that promoting himself as an ardent supporter of Chris Bollyn will gain him the odd new convert, he'll do it too. In that respect, Kerr shares some attributes of political chameleons such as Tony Blair and David Cameron.

Jamie Linton was an online friend of Nina. Around early May, Kerr and Linton fell out with each other over the fact that Kerr had broken his word in publishing information obtained from Nina about Smith that he had promised not to publish. Soon Kerr was promoting a ridiculous theory that Linton and O'Connell were the same person, a "Zionist agent" who was working with Nina. Kerr's 'evidence' for Linton and O'Connell being one and the same consisted of the fact that they were both from Perth in Western Australia and they had both posted comments at the same internet forum. Perth has a population of about one and a half million.

Back in April, I had gotten into Fester's long 1154 thread at WUFYS on the topic of Daryl Bradford Smith, and Kerr was watching the debate and telling Linton that he would "stake his reputation" that I, Poseidon, was another poster named Debus who had also argued with Kerr on some other forum. Kerr was subsequently to abandon that claim, substituting "Peter Sault" for Debus.

In May, 2007, Kerr declared that he, Michael Stewart and Suzette the Whippette, a former member of their "team", could no longer support Daryl Bradford Smith. I was on the anti-Smith side of the discussion at WUFYS, and when Kerr, Stewart and Linton showed up at WUFYS and appeared to be rather skeptical of Smith, I initially contacted Michael Stewart to see if I could get anything more on Smith by exchanging information. Stewart passed my message on to Kerr, who began corresponding with me. He kept promising that he had reams of evidence against Smith, Linton and Nina, and that the main problem was documenting everything. So I was on friendly terms with Kerr and Stewart from about late June to early July.

The PlanetQuo team did not come up with the promised "evidence". But matters came to a head when Suzette decided to speak to Linton and Nina, to find out if they really were "agents". At this point I thought there was some slim possibility of Kerr's theories being correct. I decided to talk to Linton and Nina too, and Suzette and I came to the conclusion that they were just normal people. Kerr was furious with Suzette for "acting unilaterally" and making contact with his "sworn enemies". Kerr's declared position is that he "never communicates" with his enemies, unless it is to "discuss the terms of their surrender". The reason for that would seem to be that, deep down, he suspects that it would shatter his whole, paranoid world-view about his declared "enemies" being "Zionist shills".

When Kerr forwarded me a vitriolic message that he had written for Suzette, I came to the conclusion that he was a nutcase albeit a lucid nut. He never actually sent it to her (as he claimed he had), but he publicly posted it on his website where she could not have failed to notice it. He called her a "stupid cow", a "stupid bitch", announced that he would "nuke" her (she thought that could be some sort of attack that would ruin her computer), and told her to "go fuck yourself". I decided I would have no more to do with him, and a few days later I sent him a final email saying that I now considered his theories to be far-fetched and highly improbable. I also suggested that it would be silly to waste time on a fight between Kerr / Stewart and Linton / Nina / Suzette / myself, implying that if he was going to attack Suzette he would have the rest of us to contend with too.

After his attacks on Linton and Nina, Kerr's venom was directed at Suzette, and he wrote pages attacking her. Then he started attacking me, and Kerr and Stewart began to promote the ridiculous Poseidon = Peter Sault rumour.

I noticed, in some correspondence that Kerr had publicly posted on his site, that he had suffered the loss of a family member around March 2007. The timing strongly coincided with his bizarre behavior of the last six months. At that time, I did not know it was his father, and was unaware of the cause of death. I tried to exonerate Kerr, and suggested that, even though he had attacked people and accused me and others of being "Zionist agents", I did not think he was a Zionist or even a bad person. But, I said I believed that the traumatic event of losing a family member could have been a contributory factor in his personality changes over the last few months. He then claimed to have interpreted that as a personal attack, and suggested that I was trying to trash the memory of his father. When I replied that my suggestion that the loss had affected him demonstrated that he must have thought very highly of his father, which in turn implied that his father was a very good man, he did not acknowledge that. In narcissistic personality disorder for example, it is unusual for the sufferer to seek therapy.

So in March his father died from cancer, in April he attacked Nina as a "Zionist agent", in early May he turned against his friend Linton, in July he turned against his former "team member" Suzette telling her to "go fuck yourself", then he turned against me after we had been corresponding on friendly terms about the conspiracies.

On September 30, 2007, it transpired that Kerr had made a complaint about me to qrswave, the administrator and creator of the WUFYS forum. One of his complaints was that the attempt to exonerate him, or at the very least, mitigate his extraordinary behavior of the previous six months by citing his bereavement, was "using the death of (his) father as a weapon" against him. The other was an accusation that republishing information about his home address, information that he had already elected to make public on his own website, amounted to publishing details of his "private address" that he did not want to reveal.

As for the address, I deliberately chose not to write the street address in my comment; readers would have had to follow the instructions and click on the links. That's just the same as Kerr chose to do on his own site. It was from there that I obtained the address. An observation that I added was my discovery that a man with a Jewish name, Jon P Myers, was listed as an occupant at the same address, and I did state that it could just be a coincidence. In fact, my information is that Mr Myers has now moved to another flat in the same road.

Kerr doesn't appear to be the kind of sane character that one can reason with. It seems that he just lives for these online battles, and there's nothing he enjoys more than writing a new expose on one of his enemies. I cannot completely rule out the theory that Kerr is working for the Zionists, but the personality disorder theory makes most sense to me and a number of other observers, some of whom have never even been the subject of Kerr's attacks. He clearly perceives me (and many others) as his "enemy", but in reality I never had any desire to be his enemy.

EVIDENCE OF THE PLANETQUO TEAM'S DECEPTIONS

Here is an example of TeamQuo's attempts to 'prove' that I, Poseidon, am "Jewish". Compare their photoshopped version of 'me' with the original frame from the YouTube video "The infamous shill 'Professor Peter Poseidon Sault' Exposed!" (which is the first embedded video above).

A comparison of the above two images is proof of digital manipulation. The curvature in the slope of the nose has been increased from about 10 to 30 degrees, the tip has been tweaked downwards to exaggerate the 'hook', and several teeth have been removed. That's if we disregard the wholly unnecessary adjustment of the brightness and contrast.

In PlanetQuo Exonerated!, Kerr's frantic attempt to extricate himself from the deep hole of his own making, he uses a straw man argument. He pretends that the image that I have suggested was photoshopped is an image from The Poseidon Misadventure, published November 6th. False. I was clearly referring to the image above with the hooked nose and blacked out teeth, from At The Wake Of Poseidon which was published within a week of Christmas 2007. Kerr's next tactic is to suggest that if the image I refer to is indeed from At The Wake Of Poseidon, then it is his team-mate Quasimodo who is guilty instead. But in this case, Kerr is happy to collaborate with, and publish the work of, a proven cheat and liar. Kerr then obfuscates and tries to change the subject by lying about who started the "war", as if the very fact of his deceptions gives him carte blanche to carry on lying like there is no tomorrow.

In order to 'prove' that an anti-Zionist is a "Zionist shill", all Team "straw-clutching" Quo imagine they need is a cherry-picked close-up of a nose with suitable camera distortions, along with an 'honest adjustment' of the brightness and contrast where none was needed. This may then be supplemented with a photoshopped image supplied by one of their lying, deceiving zio-comrades.

Verdict: Guilty as charged. Take him down!

Poseidon's Nose - Hooked Or Not?

My first point would be to stress that it is not the webmaster of PlanetQuo.Com who is the webmaster who is in a deep hole, but the webmaster of takeourworldback.com. This, after all, is his funeral, not mine.

In his statement of 24th December, the webmaster of takeourworldback.com specifically accuses Michael Stewart and myself of manipulating a screenshot of his huge schnozzle.

As I said, TeamQuo have been found guilty. Whichever one of them did it, is irrelevant. The fact is, Kerr chose to publish on his website.

Quasimodo was an administrator at Wake Up From Your Slumber until without notice or explanation, his adminstrative privileges were removed early in October 2007.

It's understandable, given his abuse of admin privileges (e.g. acting unilaterally to ban members, delete posts, etc) and his constant focusing on personal abuse and attacks - on a site that is supposed to be about fighting Zionism. There was no "Zionist plot" behind his being booted out.

And while I do not believe that Wake Up From Your Slumber is run by Zionists, I do, however, believe that the site has a problem with Zionist shills.

It's good that Jim "Adonis" Kerr and I agree on something. However, Kerr, Stewart and Quasimodo were the principal Zionist shills operating at WUFYS.

As can clearly be seen, no matter what angle you view it from it from, Poseidon's huge, crooked, Jewish-looking schnozzle will always look like a huge, crooked, Jewish-looking schnozzle.

If Kerr truly believes that, he is an idiot. Otherwise, he is a lying shill. Goodbye, Mr Kerrstein!

ABSTRACT

The PlanetQuo website carries a whole host of extraordinary claims, which attempt to malign the reputation of a number of individuals and 'prove' them to be "Zionist agents". Highlights of the 'theory' advocated by the team associated with this site include: (1) James Linton, and Brendon O'Connell, two Australian individuals with very dissimilar writing styles who each post on the internet under several pseudonyms, are "the same person", with O'Connell merely a creation of Linton's imagination. (2) An American individual who operates the "Fester" handle at the internet forum Wake Up From Your Slumber, and a fourth individual who posts to white nationalist forums as "Lord Sidious", are also creations of Linton. (3) An individual known as Nina on Myspace and apossumprincess at Wake Up From Your Slumber is "the same person" as another totally separate entity who posts to white nationalist forums as Eireann Goddess, and the multiple personality Nina / apossumprincess / Eireann Goddess combines the roles of agent provocateur, ADL honeypot trap, and handler for the fraudulent so-called 'anti-Zionist' Daryl Bradford Smith. (4) Suzette aka Whippette, is a "fake Catholic", a "deceiver", and is "not to be trusted". (5) Poseidon, Webmaster of Take Our World Back, and another totally separate entity named Peter Wakefield Sault who lives about 100 miles from Poseidon, are "the same person", and "he is" a "Zionist shill".

Optional variations on the theory include its antithesis "Plan Daisy", the concept of a team of agents who combine to play the part of a 'single' individual. The multiple personae and multiple individuals theses may be combined to yield the theory of a team of collusive disinformation agents who cover for each other as they operate the various handles. As part of his research into deception, infiltration and disinformation within the anti-Zionist truth movement, the writer conducted an investigation into these claims put forth by the PlanetQuo website, in order to determine whether there was any substance to them. The investigation found that PlanetQuo's 'theory' with regard to these particular personae was absolute balderdash, with the evidence serving to refute rather than confirm PlanetQuo's hypothesis.

METHODOLOGY

The writer entered into email correspondence with posters at Wake Up From Your Slumber and subsequently held conversations with several of them. Evidence compiled included audio of the PlanetQuo webmaster Jim Kerr leaving 'messages' consisting of heavy breathing and laughing on a voicemail account of Suzette the Whippette, email correspondence of Kerr making bizarre claims such as "the population of Mount Lawley, Perth, Western Australia is 60% Jewish", and postings to forums and statements on the PlanetQuo website such as Fester = Linton = O'Connell.

The original intent was to collaborate and share data in an analysis of posting times of forum members, with a view to identifying their likely time zone or to determine whether they were posting right round the clock and might therefore be a team of shills working shifts, or with members scattered around the globe. The posting times study was found to be reliable only in the case of prolific posters who exhibited a regular break (sleeping time) at some given point in the 24-hour UTC clock. It was found that posters could exhibit somewhat unconventional sleep patterns. Australians, for example, would sometimes stay up right into the early hours, making it appear as if they might be posting from Europe or even the US East Coast.

The focus of the investigation soon moved to the bizarre phenomenon of the PlanetQuo team's conflict with other anti-Zionists. After a few weeks, the data gathered was enough to arrive at a conclusion with respect to the motives of the PlanetQuo team. It was considered to be in the public interest to release private correspondence into the public domain, because: (i) PlanetQuo had already published some correspondence, and announced an intent to publish the remaining correspondence. (ii) Release of the material can serve as a demonstration of PlanetQuo's deceptions, lies and hypocrisy, and can help to prevent other unsuspecting, genuine truth seekers from being lured in to a time-wasting, albeit temporary, delusional diversion.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The cornerstone of the PlanetQuo team's theories is that James Linton, Brendon O'Connell and the person posting as "Fester" at Wake Up From Your Slumber were all the same individual. There is no dispute that Linton uses the pseudonyms Crimes of Zion and Infensus Mentis, and that O'Connell has used pseudonyms including DonnieDarko, QuoVadius, QuoVadis, and truebeliever. It did not take long to find that the idea that James Linton = Brendon O'Connell = Fester was nonsensical. Both Linton and O'Connell are known to have different ISPs, and all three characters have unique writing styles that are very dissimilar. For example, Brendon O'Connell misspells words such as "their", "naive", "kiddies" and "surveillance", and gets the apostrophe in the wrong place in "doesn't". See this comment on the same page for confirmation of his surname, other errors, and examples of his usage of excreta-related words. James Linton's writing is much more incisive and technically proficient, and he has a history of using words such as "fuck" and "pussy". Fester's style is rather lackluster, contributes little to a debate, manages to avoid most of the technical errors of O'Connell, yet has a greater propensity to pepper his comments with talk of "bullshit", "crap", "shit", "piss", etc. Linton uses AAPT as his ISP, and O'Connell uses Telstra.

Brendon O'Connell reported James Linton to the authorities, for saying in an internet forum that he could have a mate in the Feds track down O'Connell's home address. Moreover, O'Connell provided Linton with documentary evidence that he, O'Connell, was a real person, by posting images of his driving license and a letter from his real estate agent regarding vacating a property in Esperance. Naturally, Kerr refused to accept the documentary evidence, claiming that it must have been "forged".

There remained the possibility that Linton and O'Connell were two separate Zionist agents, perhaps operating out of the same safehouse with two landlines installed and two different ISPs, or collaborating whilst several miles apart. However, this was sheer conjecture. The hypothesis had no evidence to support it, other than in Jim Kerr's vivid imagination and projected to Michael Fugazi, who appears to have a desperate need to maintain his relationship with Kerr. Conversations and email correspondence with Linton on a number of occasions provided no credible evidence to suggest he was a secret Zionist agent, or to disprove his account of events.

Another postulate of the Quo team is that Nina at Myspace aka apossumprincess is also known as Gina and operates the Eireann Goddess handle, acting as an agent provocateur on white nationalist forums. It's true that both Nina and Gina have two eyes, a nose and a mouth. But Gina bears only a slight resemblance to Nina, and her ears are quite different. TeamQuo also claim that Nina is Daryl Smith's "handler", and ordered Smith to stop an expose of Joe Molero's forum NOLAJBS. However, TFC still carries its page on NOLAJBS at http://iamthewitness.com/NOLAJBS-info.html, which also links to the PlanetQuo page on NOLAJBS, although Eric removed the link from TFC's front page. Extraordinary hypotheses, such as Nina posting under multiple handles on white nationalist forums, demand extraordinary standards of proof. The evidence presented does not prove the case.

Jim Kerr's record of making howlers is so consistent that he hardly ever gets anything right, and if he declares something as factual, the odds are that it would be untrue. For example, he came up with a theory that the population of Mount Lawley, Perth, Western Australia, was 60% Jewish. A check with the relevant census found that the true figure was 0.9%.

Suzette the Whippette was briefly a member of the PlanetQuo team. Even whilst Jim Kerr was still on friendly terms with her, he left voicemail messages such as this one from May 16, 2007 of heavy breathing and creepy laughing. Does that sound like the voice of sanity, or is Jim Kerr aka PlanetQuo a candidate for the 21st century's answer to the Yorkshire Ripper aka Peter Sutcliffe?

Suzette decided to speak to Linton to find out whether he seemed to be a "Zionist agent". Upon finding that he seemed perfectly normal, she made contact with Nina, who also seemed fine. When Kerr found out, he was infuriated that one of 'his' team members had "acted unilaterally", as he put it. He forwarded to the writer and Michael Stewart an email entitled "Stupid Suzette", which was a vitriolic message calling her a "stupid bitch", telling her to "go fuck yourself" and never to contact him again, etc. Kerr subsequently claimed to have sent the email to Suzette. However, he lied about that. She never received it from Kerr, and his own screenshot shows that it was only forwarded to the writer ("Poseidon") and Stewart.

CONCLUSION

The sheer incompetence and ineptness of the PlanetQuo team indicates that they are not Zionist agents. A diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) would provide a fitting explanation for Jim Kerr's behavior. Kerr's motivation appears to be that of sustaining a childish fantasy about being the head of his own international organization, an agency at the forefront in the fight against crime and Zionism, with the power to hire and fire his agents. He desperately wants to believe in himself as a somebody, rather than a nobody. It is somewhat amusing to see that Kerr actually cites his vitriolic message as evidence for him, rather than against him. From his point of view, it bolsters his fantasy about being "numero uno".

In the end, we should not harbor any ill will towards Jim Kerr. He is a rather pitiable figure, a sad, lonely, middle-aged man, albeit with skills in webmastering and gathering data, even if his data analysis skills do leave a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, his talents are misdirected. As for Michael "Fugazi" Stewart, he may have a milder form of NPD, but his need to maintain his relationship with Kerr dictates that he must go along with all of Kerr's whopping howlers.

ABSURD THEORIES AND AMUSING QUOTES FROM THE WEBMASTER OF PLANETQUO.COM

I stand by what I have written and will not, under any circumstances, retract any of it.

Although Poseidon does not mention and (sic) of us by name, Michael, Quasimodo and myself are the "tinfoil brigade" to whom he refers.

The remarks that I made to Linton on 1st May in respect of you being Debus were made in the context of my standing with Linton only. If I were to do a mea culpa and make a public statement in which I say that I am now convinced that you are not Debus, and that I was mistaken, no doubt Linton and his allies will attempt to use this as a weapon. They will say that PlanetQuo has no credibility because he said that he would stake his credibility on Poseidon being Debus.

What I meant when I told Linton that “I would stake my credibility on it if called,” was in respect of my standing with him, but that doesn’t matter anymore lol.

I am now satisfied that you are not Debus and wish to apologise for mistakenly saying that you were, and for any embarrassment caused, although it is I who has the red face lol. I now stand corrected and retract my remarks.

With assistance from Crimes of Zion, Grim Reaper and Geeez, Poseidon and his support team of shils (sic) managed to bury my post hence my decision to post my comments as a blog entry. Poseidon's lies, deceptions and obfuscations are self-evident to any interested party who cares to examine the facts. I once again challenge Peter Sault to address the points I raise. Since Sault himself made these comments, it is Peter Sault a.k.a. Poseidon himself who should address my points, and not his support team of shills.

Linton is, without question, an agent provocateur at best, an intelligence operative at worst. You will note from my updated file on him that he/she has been caught in a lie vis a vis their actual physical address. Sometime this week, a telephone call will be made to the number that is listed for xxx Fifth Avenue, and since Linton is on the record as saying that he/she has no landline telephone, then nobody should answer the call. If, however, a voice is heard, then another of his/her lies is exposed.

Linton is working with Nina a.k.a. A Possum Princess. There can be no doubt about that. It is also evident that she is the one in control. Nina, of course, is at the root of the conflict that took place between DBS, NOLAJBS and myself. That Smith promoted her so lavishly, and directed his listeners to her, is highly suspicious. A few of my contacts believe that she is the 'brains' behind Judicial Inc. I would not be in the least bit surprised to discover that Nina is the infamous Skunk.

O'Connell, like his fellow Perth resident and ally Crimes of Zion, has some very strange ideas about Alex Jones. The question is....who is operating all these handles? A poster on Club Conspiracy has alleged that Todd Brendan Fahey is the person operating the True Believer/Donnie Darko/Quo Vadius handles, and since all the evidence that I have points to COZ being TB/Vadius/Darko, and if this information is correct, then Linton is Fahey, and Fahey has CIA connections!

Tonethon is one of New Math's aliases.....Geeez is the other. New Math is a lieutenant of Joe Molero - owner of NOLAJBS.

Darko is part of the NOLAJBS set-up, and the 'fights' he/she has had with the NOLAJBS admin are all staged!!!! When Darko reinvented themselves as Quo Vadius, nobody at NOLAJBS noticed or cared.

I have some interesting information on Fahey that I am not yet ready to publicly disclose. Since Smith encouraged his supporters to visit Nina’s “little MySpace site”, is it not most probably the case that he did so in order to enable whoever operates the Nina account to identify dissidents and record their personal details? One thing we can be sure of though is that Smith did not direct his supporters to Nina’s MySpace account to peruse her research on Zionism since there is no research there to peruse!!!!!! We already know that Nina has a website that Smith regularly visits. I believe that website to be Judicial Inc. You will note from the drop down menu that Bellsouth’s Internet services are available only in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, and this means that the Skunk lives in one of these nine states. Hufschmid uses AOL, and I have yet to establish who Nina’s ISP might be. If it turns out to be Bellsouth, then the noose around her neck tightens further.

I have no doubt that MySpace is being used by the ADL to identify and target anti-Zionists. I believe that they operate there by deploying a team of full-time agents who create and manage a myriad of fake profiles. Each agent then adds the ‘friends’ of other agents to his/her account to create the illusion that they are all independent, unique ‘truthseekers’ when in actuality, they are multiple personae of the same small team of ADL operatives. I believe that this why the agent who operates the Infensus Mentis MySpace account contacted me and Michael in January requesting that they be added to our contact list. I’m inclined to go with the latter since it will get more exposure and cause O’Connell/Linton more damage. COZ is really struggling to keep up appearances. In fact, he is coming apart at the seams.

Millionaire has-beens

The ranks of high-net-worth individuals in the United States have thinned, thanks to you know what.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – Your chances of tripping over a millionaire in the United States have gone down.

In 2002, there were 100,000 fewer U.S. millionaires than the year before, according to the 2003 World Wealth report released this week by Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and Merrill Lynch.

But don't cry too much. There are still 2 million left. The survey defines "high net worth individuals" as those with at least $1 million in assets, excluding real estate.

And though the bear market that sucked the wind (and the nylon) out of your savings sails also dinged the portfolios of high-net-worth individuals, as a group the rich rocked when it came to curbing their losses.

According to the survey, the combined wealth of U.S. and Canadian millionaires (who number about 200,000) fell just 2.1 percent to $7.4 trillion last year. That's the first time in seven years the group experienced a decline in wealth -- hardly a tragedy given that the S&P 500 plunged a whopping 22 percent last year.

The rich played it safe

How did they do it? Well, they had help, of course -- probably pricey help in some instances.

And they played the wealth-preservation game by loading up on highly conservative investments and chanting "Cash is king. Cash is king."

In addition to allocating a great deal of their money into liquid and fixed-income vehicles, they also diversified by allocating money to investments such as real estate investment trusts whose performance is less correlated with equities.

According to the report, the average portfolio of a high-net-worth individual in 2002 looked like this: 30 percent fixed income, 25 percent cash, 20 percent equities, 15 percent real estate and 10 percent alternative investments (e.g., hedge funds).

Worldwide, rich get richer

Rich folk overseas did an even better job managing their money.

In Asia, the number of high-net-worth individuals rose 5 percent and their combined wealth grew 10.7 percent. In the Middle East, there were 4.7 percent more millionaires, and the group as a whole enjoyed an increase of 4.6 percent in assets.

In Europe, the number of millionaires grew by 3.9 percent and overall wealth rose 4.8 percent. And in Latin America, while the number of millionaires fell by 3.6 percent, the assets of those who remained rose 2.7 percent.

Worldwide, the number of millionaires increased 2.1 percent to 7.3 million people, and their combined wealth rose 3.6 percent to $27.2 trillion. How does that nut break down to individual wallets? According to the report, about 90 percent of high-net-worth individuals globally have between $1 million and $5 million apiece.

And the number of "ultra" rich worldwide grew as well. "Ultras"are defined as individuals with more than $30 million in financial assets – they make up less than 1 percent of the high-net-worth pool. But they're gaining ground. Their ranks grew 2 percent to 58,000 people. And their combined wealth grew by about 3.6 percent.

Iran's government spokesman says the 'oil mafia' is trying to remove President Ahmadinejad because of his anti-corruption programs.

“I don't say that the oil mafia does not exist today and it does not damage [the country], but the mafia doesn't feel secure with President Ahmadinejad and plans to remove him,” Gholam-Hossein Elham said in a meeting with Imam Sadeq University students in Tehran on Tuesday.

“Ahmadinejad's removal would mean the revival of the mafia,” he noted.

He also stated that the Iranian government wants to support Iranian farmers but some figures are resisting the government program.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says Tel Aviv must complete its apartheid wall by 2010 amid rising global condemnation.

Palestinians condemn the 790-km-long West Bank separation wall as a major obstacle blocking any peace deal with the Israeli regime.

The apartheid wall cuts off large chunks of the West Bank, including key eastern parts of the holy city where Palestinians want a capital for future statehood.

"Over the years, the security fence has gone from the project that set the international community against us to a project that constitutes an example of how to defend against terrorism," Olmert said.

Israel occupied the eastern part of al-Quds in the 1967 Six-Day War. It calls the entire city its capital, a claim not recognized internationally. In 2004, the World Court declared the apartheid wall illegal since it is being built inside the occupied West Bank, but Israel has pressed ahead with its construction.

Dick Cheney's fantasy world

Despite the facts, the vice-president still insists that Saddam Hussein could have produced weapons of mass destruction

In yet another attempt at revisionist history by the outgoing Bush administration, vice-president Dick Cheney, in an exclusive interview with ABC News, took exception to former presidential adviser Karl Rove's contention that the US would not have gone to war if available intelligence before the invasion had shown Iraq not to possess weapons of mass destruction. Cheney noted that the only thing the US got wrong on Iraq was that there were no stockpiles of WMD at the time of the 2003 invasion. "What they found was that Saddam Hussein still had the capability to produce weapons of mass destruction. He had the technology, he had the people, he had the basic feed stock."

The vice-president should re-check both his history and his facts. Just prior to President Bush's decision to invade Iraq, the UN had teams of weapons inspectors operating inside Iraq, blanketing the totality of Iraq's industrial infrastructure. They found no evidence of either retained WMD, or efforts undertaken by Iraq to reconstitute a WMD manufacturing capability. Whatever dual-use industrial capability that did exist (so-called because the industrial processes involved to produce legitimate civilian or military items could, if modified, be used to produce materials associated with WMD) had been so degraded as a result of economic sanctions and war that any meaningful WMD production was almost moot. To say that Saddam had the capability or the technology to produce WMD at the time of the US invasion is a gross misrepresentation of the facts.

While one can make the argument that Saddam had the people, insofar as the scientists who had participated in the WMD programmes of the 1980s were still in Iraq and, in many cases, still employed by the government, these human resources were irrelevant without either the industrial infrastructure, the economic base or the political direction needed to produce WMD. None of these existed. The argument Cheney makes on feed stock is even more ludicrous. Precursor chemicals used in the lawful manufacture of chemical pesticides were present in Iraq at the time of the invasion, but these were unable to be used in manufacturing the sarin, tabun or VX chemical nerve agents the Bush administration claimed existed inside Iraq in stockpile quantities prior to the invasion.

The same can be said about Iraqi biological capability. The discovery after the invasion of a few vials of botulinum toxin suitable for botox treatments, but unusable for any weapons purposes, does not constitute a feed stock. And as for the smoking gun that the Bush administration did not want to come in the form of a mushroom cloud, there was no nuclear weapons programme in Iraq in any way shape or form, nor had there been since it was dismantled in 1991. Cheney's dissimilation of the facts surrounding Iraqi WMD serves as a distraction from the reality of the situation. Not only did the entire Bush administration know that the intelligence data about Iraqi WMD was fundamentally flawed prior to the invasion, but they also knew that it did not matter in the end. Bush was going to invade Iraq no matter what the facts proved.

Cheney defended the invasion and subsequent removal of Saddam from power by noting that "this was a bad actor and the country's better off, the world's better off with Saddam gone". This is the argument of the intellectually feeble. It would be very difficult for anyone to articulate that life today is better in Baghdad, Mosul, Basra or any non-Kurdish city than it was under Saddam. Ask the average Iraqi adult female if she is better off today than she was under Saddam, and outside of a few select areas in Kurdistan, the answer will be a resounding "no".

The occupation of Iraq by the United States is far more brutal, bloody and destructive than anything Saddam ever did during his reign. When one examines the record of the US military in Iraq in terms of private homes brutally invaded, families torn apart and civilians falsely imprisoned (the prison population in Iraq during the US occupation dwarfs that of Saddam's regime), what is clear is that the only difference between the reign of terror inflicted on the Iraqi people today and under Saddam is that the US has been far less selective in applying terror than Saddam ever was.

At a time when the US and the world struggle with a resurgent Iran, the Iranian-dominated Dawa party of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki governs Iraq today in name only. The stability enjoyed by Iraq today has been bought with the presence of 150,000 US troops who have overseen the ethnic cleansing of entire neighbourhoods in cities around Iraq, and who have struck temporary alliances with Shia and Sunni alike which cannot be sustained once these forces leave (as they are scheduled to do by 2011).

Invading Iraq and removing Saddam, the glue that held that nation together as a secular entity, was the worst action the US could have undertaken for the people of Iraq, the Middle East as a whole and indeed the entire world. For Cheney to articulate otherwise, regardless of his fundamentally flawed argument on WMD, only demonstrates the level to which fantasy has intruded into the mind of the vice-president.

Ahmadinejad: Justice to be administered at any price

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in Ahvaz that he will stand to the end to administer justice at any price and is not afraid of reproaches.
Addressing owners of windfall wealth, he added, "If justice is administered you should get offended because you have acquired it due to injustice and discriminatory policies in the society." If the government wants to regain them and put them at the public disposal, then they'll say that such policies are wrong, he said.
He added that more than 80 percent of taxes are paid by 70 percent of population who account for 30 percent of the country's total revenues.

Pakistani Taliban releases video of beheaded 'spies' on al-Qaeda leader

Pakistani Taliban have issued a video of five beheaded persons, including soldiers, who were accused of spying on a key al-Qaeda leader Abu Laith al-Libi who was killed in a U.S missile strike in the tribal region in January this year.
Al-Libi was a senior leader of the al-Qaeda movement in Afghanistan who appeared in several al-Qaeda videos. He was believed to have been active in the tribal regions of Waziristan. He also served as an al Qaeda spokesman and an "expert in guerilla warfare." The slain people in 'confessional statements' said that they had 'provided secret information and helped in attacks on behest of Pakistani officials, according to the video sent to several journalists in Peshawar.

The Islamic Republic in Iran is facing "a sinister international conspiracy" designed to "replace religious rule with secularism." The plot was allegedly hatched by a "secret society of Freemasons" known as the Bilderberg Group whose members include many of the Western world's richest and most powerful businessmen and politicians.

The alleged conspiracy was finalized at a secret meeting of the group in June 1999 in Caesar Park Hotel in the Portuguese resort of Penha Longa. Inside Iran, the executors of the "plot" included the so-called Reform Movement symbolized by former President Mohammed Khatami who attended the meeting along with his then assistant on environmental affairs Mrs. Massoumeh Ebtekar.

The so-called Bilderberg "lodge" is often described by conspiracy theorists as "the secret government of the world".

According to the report published by IRNA, the "plot" included building up Abdul-Karim Sorush, a self-styled philosopher and erstwhile Khatami protégé, as "the Martin Luther of Islam" with a message of separating religion from politics. They also tried to "transform Khatami into an Islamic [version of Mikhail] Gorbachev."

Wow! A tall story from the rumor-mills in the marshlands of the Internet?

Not at all. The claim comes in a lengthy report published by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the official organ of the Khomeinist regime in Tehran.

The claim is worth noting for two reasons.

The first is that it is presented by the official organ of the state. Claims that the former president had a part in foreign plots against the regime have been made by radical Khomeinist groups and websites since 2005 when Khatami's eight-year presidency ended. However, this is the first time that such a claim is given prominence by mainstream organs of the regime.

The accusation was first published by the mass-circulation daily newspaper Kayhan whose Editor-in-Chief is appointed by the "Supreme Guide" Ali Khamenei. The paper, which has promised "more sensational revelations", has often been used for character-assassination campaigns against critics of the regime, and makes no secret of its dislike for Khatami and his supposedly "reformist" supporters.

Putting the claims on IRNA, however, marks a new step in the campaign against Khatami.

The second reason why the episode is worth noting is that it indicates a dramatic intensification of the power struggle in Tehran. The radical revolutionary groups led by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are beginning to fear a possible Khatami candidacy in next June's presidential elections.

However, before we deal with the political implications of the campaign let us first deal with its substance.

Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as the Bilderberg Group or Masonic lodge. What we have is an annual private meeting of influential individuals, mostly from Europe and the United States, designed to generate free discussions on a range of issues without a pre-set agenda and according to the so-called Chatam House rules under which there are no reports of the proceedings and none of the participants could be quoted by name.

The first meeting was held at Hotel de Bilderberg near Arnhem in Holland in 1954 at the invitation of Prince Bernhard, the husband of the then Queen Juliana. The number of guests was fixed at 130 and initially only limited to politicians, academics and business people from member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Later, the meeting extended its reach and started inviting personalities from all over the world, according to which countries happened to be in the news. The invitations were designed to include two representatives from each country, one liberal and one conservative.

Over the past half a century, almost anybody who was somebody in international business or politics has made at least one appearance at the group's annual meetings. Thus, if this were a gathering of conspirators we would have to assume that virtually the whole of the global leadership elite consists of Masonic plotters. Last June, for example, Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both attended the Bilderberg meeting along with more than 60 other political figures from across the globe.

From the late 1960s until 1977, a number of Iranian politicians, academics and business people attended one or more of the group’s gatherings - always with the understanding that they were there as private individuals. However, no Iranians were invited after the Khomeinist seizure of power in 1979. That such invitations were resumed in 1999 indicated the hopes raised by Khatami that the Islamic Republic could close its revolutionary phase and return to the mainstream as a normal nation-state.

The IRNA campaign against Khatami shows that those hopes were premature. Even if one assumes that Khatami was sincere in his desire to normalize the Islamic Republic, the election of President Ahmadinejad showed that a majority of Khomeinists who provide the regime's support-base reject such change.

Nevertheless, the question has not gone away.

Many within the Khomeinist establishment realize that a majority of Iranians are tired of Khomeinism and desire normalization. The next presidential election, to be held in June, is likely to be fought on that issue. And Khatami is coming under pressure from inside and outside Iran to stand for election again, challenging Ahmadinejad's radicalism with a message of reform and moderation.

The IRNA report shows that the radical factions fear a Khatami candidacy and are trying to terrorize him into not becoming a candidate. As always, the Khomeinists shun serious arguments. They prefer accusing their critics of atheism, secularism or, as in this case, collaboration with foreign conspiracies.

The tactic may work against Khatami who has never been much of a fighter. But even if Khatami does not enter the presidential race, the main question will remain: how should Iran come out of the impasse created by a bankrupt ideology?

American dissident researchers writing about the Bilderberg Group further warn that this organization is, in fact, a ‘shadow government’ having great power over all of the World’s governments and that its meetings are banned by US propaganda media organs from reporting on them to their citizens.

Russian intelligence reports on the Bilderberg Group state that it is one of the six German Nazi based ‘Illuminati’ governed organizations that comprise what is loosely referred to as the Round Table that seeks total Western control over our entire Earth and its resources and has been directly responsible for both World War’s I and II, and which have left over 500 million dead in the past 80 years alone.

Though there are growing signs that the American people are beginning to awaken from their decade’s long slumber which has seen their freedoms and economic power stolen from them by these insidious power blocs, it may be ‘too little’ and ‘too late’ for them to reverse their catastrophic plunge into the abyss, and as we can read as reported by the World Tribune News Service in their report titled “Doomsday: U.S. report warns of 'strategic shock' leading to massive unrest”, and which says:

“The United States could be sleep-walking into its next crisis, a military report said.

The report by the U.S. Army War College's Strategic Institute, said that a defense community paralyzed by conventional thinking could be unprepared to help the United States cope with a series of unexpected crises that would rival the Al Qaida strikes in 2001, termed a "strategic shock."

"Widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security," the report, authored by [Ret.] Lt. Col. Nathan Freir, said.”

Reports from the United States are showing that their War Leaders are heeding these warnings as the US Military is preparing to unleash upon its citizens another 11,500 American Troops that they say will protect their Nation upon their new President’s inauguration.

Being lost upon these American people, however, is that the Military Forces they will soon be confronting are not there to protect them, but are instead being deployed to protect the ruling American elite classes who have robbed their people of their entire wealth and intend to leave them as nothing more than economic slaves and prisoners in their vast urban concentration camps and vast prison network which has made them the most jailed people our World has ever known.

What is feared most by these American War Leaders is that their citizens will awaken to the plans being made for their slavery like the peoples in Greece who are now violently engaged against these Western monsters in order to free their Nation from its planned destruction.

Russian Military Experts state in their reports that unlike Europe, the Middle East or the Eastern Nations of the World, the American people are not expected to rise up in mass against their planned destruction as their physical and mental states have been nearly totally destroyed by the forced drugging of them through their genetically modified foods, fluoridated water and psychotropic medical supplies, all of which are based upon eliminating these peoples as serious threats as they have become the most obese, most depressed and most mind controlled human beings our World has ever seen.

Pakistan's powerful spy agency is working with groups that support the Taliban and are killing American troops in Afghanistan, a US report says.

“All of this suggests that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is no longer certain the coalition forces will prevail in Afghanistan and that it is using militants groups in an attempt to expand its own influence,” the report said.

The report by the bipartisan Pakistan Policy Working Group also cites the Afghan government's allegations that ISI-supported elements that orchestrated an assassination attempt on Afghan President Hamid Karzai, and that the ISI had a role in the July 7 car bombing of Indian embassy in Kabul.

The 43-page report notes Pakistan may be the greatest challenge for US President-elect Barrack Obama.

The report came as Pakistani major media outlets said that the ISI had been cleared of any involvement in the Mumbai terrorist attacks by the US' Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). According to Karachi-based Dawn, FBI agents interrogated Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist for nine hours in Mumbai. They concluded that he was a Pakistani national but ISI was not involved.

Political experts say ISI was accused of being involved in the Mumbai attacks due to its past associations with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which received CIA and ISI support to fight the soviet-backed government in Afghanistan.

Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari said the US and its Western allies promoted extremism as a tool to counter the influence of the Soviet Union in the region.

"The world worked to exploit religion against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan by empowering the most fanatic extremists as an instrument of destruction of a superpower," Asif Ali Zardari wrote in an opinion piece for The New York Times.

The strategy, he said, worked, but its legacy was the creation of an extremist militia with its own dynamic.

Meanwhile, Frontier Post said in an editorial, "The Indians in cahoots with the Americans, and the British to some extent, are using this ruse to get at Pakistan's premier intelligence agency, ISI. Their ultimate aim is, of course, the Pakistan army's pulverization. But their immediate aim is to hobble ISI, the first line of Pakistan's defense apparatus.''

Hamas celebrated its 21st anniversary with a mass rally last weekend

The Islamist militant group Hamas says it has ended its six-month ceasefire with Israel in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas had earlier said it would not be renewing the truce when it expired at 0400 GMT on Friday.

The Egyptian-brokered deal began on 19 June but has been tested regularly by Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel and Israeli operations in Gaza.

Israel said it would like to renew the truce, but Hamas said Israel failed to ease its blockade of Gaza.

Israeli officials insist they never made a commitment to do so.

Both sides have accused the other or regularly infringing the truce.

"The ceasefire is over and there won't be a renewal because the Zionist enemy has not respected its conditions," Hamas said in a statement carried on its website.

As the expiry of the ceasefire neared, both sides said they would respond to any attack from the other party but would not take the offensive.

"We issue a warning to the Zionist enemy: all attacks against the Gaza Strip or any new crime will trigger a large-scale confrontation and we will retaliate very fiercely," said the Hamas statement.

Speaking to Israel's Haaretz newspaper before the ceasefire was declared over by Hamas, Defence Minister Ehud Barak said the truce had been beneficial.

"Of course the tahadiyeh (calm) was not a mistake," he told Haaretz.

"If the quiet continues, there will be quiet. If the calm breaks, we will operate."

However, there have been regular outbreaks of violence in recent weeks with Palestinian factions firing rockets at Israel from Gaza and Israel responding with airstrikes.

Mustafa Barghouti, for example, a widely respected physician who has long advocated both nonviolence and the right Palestinian refugees to return to their homes, was arrested twice. During one of these arrests, he was beaten up by soldiers.

Israel must shed its illusions and choose between racist oppression and democracy.

The Zionist revolution has always rested on two pillars: a just path and an ethical leadership. Neither of these is operative any longer. The Israeli nation today rests on a scaffolding of corruption, and on foundations of oppression and injustice. As such, the end of the Zionist enterprise is already on our doorstep. There is a real chance that ours will be the last Zionist generation. There may yet be a Jewish state here, but it will be a different sort, strange and ugly.

There is time to change course, but not much. What is needed is a new vision of a just society and the political will to implement it. Diaspora Jews for whom Israel is a central pillar of their identity must pay heed and speak out.

The opposition does not exist, and the coalition, with Ariel Sharon at its head, claims the right to remain silent. In a nation of chatterboxes, everyone has suddenly fallen dumb, because there's nothing left to say. We live in a thunderously failed reality. Yes, we have revived the Hebrew language, created a marvellous theatre and a strong national currency. Our Jewish minds are as sharp as ever. We are traded on the Nasdaq. But is this why we created a state? The Jewish people did not survive for two millennia in order to pioneer new weaponry, computer security programs or anti-missile missiles. We were supposed to be a light unto the nations. In this we have failed.

It turns out that the 2,000-year struggle for Jewish survival comes down to a state of settlements, run by an amoral clique of corrupt lawbreakers who are deaf both to their citizens and to their enemies. A state lacking justice cannot survive. More and more Israelis are coming to understand this as they ask their children where they expect to live in 25 years. Children who are honest admit, to their parents' shock, that they do not know. The countdown to the end of Israeli society has begun.

It is very comfortable to be a Zionist in West Bank settlements such as Beit El and Ofra. The biblical landscape is charming. You can gaze through the geraniums and bougainvilleas and not see the occupation. Travelling on the fast highway that skirts barely a half-mile west of the Palestinian roadblocks, it's hard to comprehend the humiliating experience of the despised Arab who must creep for hours along the pocked, blockaded roads assigned to him. One road for the occupier, one road for the occupied.

This cannot work. Even if the Arabs lower their heads and swallow their shame and anger for ever, it won't work. A structure built on human callousness will inevitably collapse in on itself. Note this moment well: Zionism's superstructure is already collapsing like a cheap Jerusalem wedding hall. Only madmen continue dancing on the top floor while the pillars below are collapsing.

We have grown accustomed to ignoring the suffering of the women at the roadblocks. No wonder we don't hear the cries of the abused woman living next door or the single mother struggling to support her children in dignity. We don't even bother to count the women murdered by their husbands.

Israel, having ceased to care about the children of the Palestinians, should not be surprised when they come washed in hatred and blow themselves up in the centres of Israeli escapism. They consign themselves to Allah in our places of recreation, because their own lives are torture. They spill their own blood in our restaurants in order to ruin our appetites, because they have children and parents at home who are hungry and humiliated. We could kill a thousand ringleaders a day and nothing will be solved, because the leaders come up from below — from the wells of hatred and anger, from the “infrastructures” of injustice and moral corruption.

If all this were inevitable, divinely ordained and immutable, I would be silent. But things could be different, and so crying out is a moral imperative.

Here is what the prime minister should say to the people: the time for illusions is over. The time for decisions has arrived. We love the entire land of our forefathers and in some other time we would have wanted to live here alone. But that will not happen. The Arabs, too, have dreams and needs.

Between the Jordan and the Mediterranean there is no longer a clear Jewish majority. And so, fellow citizens, it is not possible to keep the whole thing without paying a price. We cannot keep a Palestinian majority under an Israeli boot and at the same time think ourselves the only democracy in the Middle East. There cannot be democracy without equal rights for all who live here, Arab as well as Jew. We cannot keep the territories and preserve a Jewish majority in the world's only Jewish state — not by means that are humane and moral and Jewish.

Do you want the greater land of Israel? No problem. Abandon democracy. Let's institute an efficient system of racial separation here, with prison camps and detention villages.

Do you want a Jewish majority? No problem. Either put the Arabs on railway cars, buses, camels and donkeys and expel them en masse — or separate ourselves from them absolutely, without tricks and gimmicks. There is no middle path. We must remove all the settlements — all of them — and draw an internationally recognised border between the Jewish national home and the Palestinian national home. The Jewish law of return will apply only within our national home, and their right of return will apply only within the borders of the Palestinian state.

Do you want democracy? No problem. Either abandon the greater land of Israel, to the last settlement and outpost, or give full citizenship and voting rights to everyone, including Arabs. The result, of course, will be that those who did not want a Palestinian state alongside us will have one in our midst, via the ballot box.

The prime minister should present the choices forthrightly: Jewish racism or democracy. Settlements, or hope for both peoples. False visions of barbed wire and suicide bombers, or a recognised international border between two states and a shared capital in Jerusalem.

Why, then, is the opposition so quiet? Perhaps because some would like to join the government at any price, even the price of participating in the sickness. But while they dither, the forces of good lose hope. Anyone who declines to present a clear-cut position — black or white — is collaborating in the decline. It is not a matter of Labour versus Likud or right versus left, but of right versus wrong, acceptable versus unacceptable. The law-abiding versus the lawbreakers. What's needed is not a political replacement for the Sharon government but a vision of hope, an alternative to the destruction of Zionism and its values by the deaf, dumb and callous.

Israel’s friends abroad — Jewish and non-Jewish alike, presidents and prime ministers, rabbis and lay people — should choose as well. They must reach out and help Israel to navigate the road map toward our national destiny as a light unto the nations and a society of peace, justice and equality.

Religion in the Current Crisis

Although the the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is largely a conflict over land and can be resolved through the application of international law, religious groups do play several important roles in the ongoing crisis. Fanatical religious groups use their religions to perpetuate the conflict, while peaceful religious groups use the teachings of their religions to call for peace.

Although the American media is rife with articles on the dangers of Islamic fundamentalism, it is important to be aware of the role of two other fanaticisms – Jewish and Christian – in this conflict.

According to the late Israeli professor Israel Shahak, Israel denies Palestinian Christians and Muslims their basic human rights due in large part to a virulent strain of Jewish chauvinism. Shahak states that, “The State of Israel officially discriminates in favour of Jews and against non-Jews in many domains of life, of which I regard three as being the most important: residency rights, the right to work and the right to equality before the law.” This discrimination is arguably the largest blockage to peace between the two parties.

The Israeli settler movement, in particular, which is responsible for stealing a huge portion of Palestinian land, is primarily based on this chauvinism. Particularly disturbing is the description of their land theft as ‘redeeming’ the land – transfering holy land from non-Jewish ownership to Jewish hands. Shahak explains that, “[t]he logical conclusion of such an ideology is the expulsion, called ‘transfer’, of all non-Jews from the area of land which has to be ‘redeemed’.

In recent years there has been a bizarre marriage of fanaticisms. Some prominent members of the American Christian Right have joined with Jewish Zionists in their discrimination against non-Jews (primarily Christian and Muslim Palestinians) in the land that is holy to all three religions. Some of these Christian Zionists adhere to a previously rare theology called “Dispensationalism,” in which select scriptures from the Old Testament are interpreted to predict a series of violent events that will lead to the “second coming” of Christ. This Dispensationalist belief calls for all Jews to “return” to Israel/Palestine, which will then bring a cataclysmic “rapture,” in which 120,000 Jews will convert to Christianity and the millions remaining will be killed in a cruel and bloody battle, which will then, in turn, bring the return to earth of Jesus Christ.

Most Christians consider such violence the antithesis of the teaching of Jesus Christ. Even groups who believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible largely believe that the Second Coming will happen “in God’s way” and “in God’s time,” not through human intervention, and emphasize New Testament teachings of love and compassion. Nevertheless, the Dispensationalist interpretation is being promoted on numerous religious radio stations and elsewhere, appears well-financed, and is a significant factor.

Among the Jewish religious community there is a similar split, with religious opposition to Zionism found across the spectrum of Jewish belief. In fact, originally Zionism was a minority position among the Jewish population worldwide, only attaining its present large proportions after World War II and the Nazi atrocities. Today, a growing number of Jewish organizations and individuals consider Zionism deeply contrary to Judaism. For example, members of Neturei Karta believe that Jews “are a people in exile due to Divine decree,” and that their “banishment from the Holy Land will end miraculously at a time when all mankind will unite in the brotherly service of the Creator.” These many groups feel that Israel’s violent policies are not only counterproductive but contrary to the ethical traditions they view as the core of Judaism.

There are a number of international and alternative news sources that provide more complete information on this conflict. Listed below are some of these sources:

A Synopsis of the Current Situation in Israel/Palestine

Fortunately, the American media cover many events in Israel with great detail and thoroughness. Therefore, we are not repeating that coverage here. Instead, we are attempting to fill in the many important news items – most of them about incidents in the Palestinian territories – that are not available in the U.S. media.

For more thorough daily coverage of the region, we provide these links.

Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip live in an odd and oppressive limbo. They have no nation, no citizenship, and no ultimate power over their own lives.

Since 1967, when Israel conquered these areas (the final 22 percent of mandatory Palestine), Palestinians have been living under Israeli military occupation. While in some parts Israel has allowed a Palestinian “autonomous” entity to take on such municipal functions as education, health care, infrastructure and policing, Israel retains overall power.

According to international law, an occupying force is responsible for the protection of the civilian population living under its control. Israel, however, ignores this requirement, routinely committing violations of the Geneva Conventions, a set of principles instituted after World War II to ensure that civilians would “never again” suffer as they had under Nazi occupation. Israel is one of the leading violators of these conventions today.

Israeli forces regularly confiscate private land; imprison individuals without process – including children – and physically abuse them under incarceration; demolish family homes; bulldoze orchards and crops; place entire towns under curfew; destroy shops and businesses; shoot, maim, and kill civilians – and Palestinians are without power to stop any of it.

When a child is arrested, for example – often by a group of armed soldiers in the middle of the night – parents can do nothing. Knowing that their son is most likely being beaten by soldiers on the way to the station, stripped and humiliated in prison, quite likely physically abused in multiple additional ways, and destined to be held – perhaps in isolation – for days, week, or months (all before a trial has even taken place), parents are without the ability to protect their child. Quite often, in fact, they cannot even visit him.

Finally, when the military trial under which their son is to be sentenced – often to years (sometimes decades) in prison – all they can do is hire a lawyer whose efforts, at best, will reduce the ultimate sentence by a few months. Rarely, if ever, can even the most skilled lawyer do more than afford the child a friendly face in court and be an outside witness to the injustice of the proceedings. Meanwhile, the presence of such a lawyer provides Israel cover for its “judicial system.”

Perhaps most significant – and rarely understood by people in the outside world – is the fact that Palestinians live, basically, in a prison in which Israel holds the keys.

They cannot leave Gaza or the West Bank unless Israeli guards allow them to. If they have been allowed out, they cannot return to their homes and families unless Israeli guards permit it.

Frequently, in both cases, Israel refuses such permission.

Academics invited to attend conferences abroad, high school students given US State Department scholarships to study in the United States, mothers wishing to visit daughters abroad, American citizens returning to their families, humanitarians bringing wheelchairs – the list goes on almost without limit – have all been denied permission by Israel to leave or enter their own land.

The “Intifada”

Living under such hardship and humiliation, in the year 2000 the Palestinian population began an uprising against Israeli rule called the “Intifada.” This term – rarely translated in the American media – is simply the Arabic word for uprising or rebellion – literally, it means “shaking off.” The American Revolutionary War, for example, would be called the American intifada against Britain.

This is the second such uprising. The first began in 1986 and ended in 1993 when the peace negotiations offered hopes of justice. (Sadly, in the following years these hopes were crushed after Israel, rather than withdrawing from the West Bank and Gaza, as promised, actually doubled its expansion in these areas.)

During this first uprising, which consisted largely of Palestinians throwing stones at Israeli troops (very few Palestinians had weapons), Palestinians were killed at a rate approximately 7-10 times that of Israelis.

One of the ways Israeli forces attempted to put down this rebellion was through the “break the bones” policy, implemented by Yitzhak Rabin, in which people who had been throwing stones – often youths – were held down and their arms broken. On the first day of this policy alone, one hospital in Gaza treated 200 People for fractures.¹

Today’s uprising – termed the “Second Intifada” – was sparked when an Israeli general, Ariel Sharon, known for his slaughter of Palestinian civilians throughout his career, visited a Jerusalem holy site, accompanied by over a thousand armed Israeli soldiers. When some Palestinian youths threw stones, Israeli soldiers responded with live gunfire, killing 5 the first day, and 10 the second.

This uprising has now continued for over five years, as Israel periodically mounts massive invasions into Palestinian communities, using tanks, helicopter gunships, and F-16 fighter jets. Palestinian fighters resisting these forces possess rifles and homemade mortars and rockets. A minute fraction strap explosives onto their own bodies and attempt to deliver their bombs in person; often they kill only themselves.

While the large majority of Palestinians oppose suicide bombings, many feel that armed resistance has become necessary – much as Americans supported war after the attack at Pearl Harbor. Nevertheless, only a small portion take an active part in the resistance, despite the fact that virtually all support its aim: to create a nation free from foreign oppression.

Most Palestinians attempt – with greater or lesser success – to go on with their lives, raise their children, attend school, go to work, celebrate festivals, organize weddings, raise their crops, provide for their families – all the things that preoccupy people around the world.

As Israel constructs a wall around them, however, prevents them at checkpoints from traveling from town to town, destroys their crops, prevents children from traveling to schools and the sick and injured from getting to the hospitals, it is becoming increasingly difficult to live even an approximation of a normal life.

Most Palestinians feel that the Israeli government’s intention is to drive them off the land, and there is a great deal of evidence that this is the goal of many Israeli leaders.

At the same time, however, there is a small but determined minority of Israelis, joined by citizens from throughout the world, who are coming to the Palestinian Territories to oppose Israeli occupation. These “internationals,” as they are often called, take part in peaceful marches, attempt to help Palestinian farmers harvest their crops despite Israeli military closures, live in refugee camps in the hope that their presence will prevent Israeli invasions and shelling, and walk children to school.

They are sometimes beaten, shot, and killed.

Some Israeli soldiers are refusing to serve in the West Bank or Gaza, stating: “We shall not continue to fight beyond the 1967 borders in order to dominate, expel, starve and humiliate an entire people.”

Meanwhile, the semblance of Palestinian autonomy continues. Elections held in January, 2005, resulted in new Palestinian leadership that will govern under occupation and will attempt to negotiate eventual Palestinian liberation. Yet even this election demonstrated Israel’s power, as various Palestinian candidates were arrested, detained, and sometimes beaten by Israeli forces. This aspect, however, like so much else, was rarely reported by the American media.
